“It’s really nice to have the Cadbury brand in Canada because it’s a really cool brand and it’s something that’s really strong and iconic and we really think that the Canadians are really going to be embracing it,” said CEO David Pritchard.
“We’re really excited to see it go in a different direction than what we’ve been doing.”
Pritchers is currently the world’s second-biggest chocolate maker behind Cadbury.
“It will be a bit of a test for the company to see how the Canadian market reacts to Cadbury,” he added.
“Cadburys branding is really strong in Canada and we want to give them a taste of what we’re really all about.”
Preet Singh, the president of the Canadian Beverage Association, said the Cadburys brand is a symbol of Canadian culture and the province has long held a special place in Canadians’ hearts.
“They are very much the birthplace of our country and a symbol for a lot of Canadians.
I think it’s just really great for the country to have a Canadian brand,” he said.
Pritcher added that the new Cadburies brand will also help bring more Canadians into the industry.
“There are a lot more Canadians who are working in the chocolate industry than we think and we think that a lot people are going to get their taste of Cadbury when they’re drinking a latte and a latTEAK,” he told the CBC.
Preet added that his association is not looking to be a competitor to the British chocolate maker Cadbury, which has had a successful run in Canada.
“The American market is huge and so is the Canadian markets.
We think it will be interesting to see if there is a crossover there.”
Cadbury’s new Canadian brand will include more flavours including chocolate chip, dark chocolate and caramel, as well as new flavours like chocolate peanut butter, chocolate chip butter, coconut and cocoa.
