Chocolate frosting is one of those things that people like to say is impossible to make at home, but in a recipe for chocolate cake, it is.
The frosting for this cake uses a cream-and-butter combination of cocoa butter and chocolate powder.
But you can’t just pour cocoa butter into your bowl of frosting and have it magically turn into chocolate frosting.
Instead, it takes a combination of a few things to make it work: the cream and butter have to be the right kind of butter; the cocoa butter has to be dark enough that it won’t burn you; and there must be a good ratio of cocoa to chocolate.
You have to work it into your cake to give it the right texture.
A delicious cake that is, in fact, chocolate frosted.
